Coating and Plating Options
Coating descriptions, summary of performance features, and common applications:
Titanium Nitride (TiN)
Used to significantly increase surface hardness and tool life through protection to cutting and sliding surfaces from deformation caused by corrosion and wear.
Nickel Plating
Used in a decorative capacity and/or to significantly increase tool life through protection to impact and sliding surfaces from deformation caused by corrosion and wear.
Zinc Plating
Used to significantly increase tool life through corrosion resistance properties in which the plating:
- Acts as a barrier against moisture
- Acts as a sacrificial element even when the substrate is exposed to air or water through a process known as galvanic corrosion
Chrome Plating
Used in a decorative capacity and/or to significantly increase tool life through protection to impact and sliding surfaces from deformation caused by corrosion and wear. In some applications, it can be used to enhance surface hardness or provide ease of maintenance.
Teflon Coating
Often used in food grade, surgical, and rubber processing applications where abrasion and bacterial resistance, as well material release properties are critical.
